In April, Amber stayed a night at one of her favorite backpacker hostels, Everglades Hostel, where she met Tom, the owner of the adventure company, Tom Foolery Outdoors. At the time, she heard laughing from the backyard treehouse of the hostel, and saw a group of travelers in the tree above her attempting to lower a basket full of empty beer cans by way of a pulley system.
“Would you like me to send up another round?” She asked them and loaded up the basket with cold ones from the fridge and sent them up. Tom was one of the treehouse travelers, and after chatting a bit, Amber and Tom had one thing in common: they had both taken a “Spirit Quest.”
A “Spirit Quest” is a lengthy travel experience that is not simply a vacation. These Quests typically have a goal or purpose, whether internal or as some form of fundraiser or awareness effort. They also have an unusual aspect or method to travel. For Amber, she hitched on airplanes across the United States to raise awareness of general aviation, and also simply for the fun of traveling.
Tom was riding his bicycle from San Diego to Key West to raise awareness for active travel, and also to help support the Special Olympics. Tom’s company, Tom Foolery Outdoors, has loads of events and activities to encourage people to get outside and explore the world around them like his river rampage adventure, biking tour series, and urban yoga movement. Since he needed a place to crash when he reached Key West after biking across the United States, we offered to host Tom on the Mangrove Ninja.
Thus, our Spirit Quest series was born, and we have decided to offer special discounts/arrangements for those who find themselves on such a quest. Whether biking for a cause, kayaking the Florida Keys, or simply seeking inner peace, if your unusual, lengthy travel journey takes you to Key West we’d be happy to help you in your “Spirit Quest”.
