I thought I would give a little update on “Boat Camping” in Key West. In July 2016, we hosted our first group of four travelers who rented both small sailboats: the Mangrove Mango and the Mangrove Ninja. We have has scores of individuals and couples, but this is the first time a group utilized both boats at the same time for accommodations. These sailboats were designed for campers with beginner-level kayak experience, and are located next to one another (but far enough away so each group of two has privacy).¬†Zappa and I got them set up and showed them a few places in the area. They had a blast exploring and brought fishing poles with them to try their luck with kayak fishing.

We have also been considering getting another boat for intermediate-level kayakers in another location on the other side of Key West island. The new location would be closer to Old Town, Duval Street, and the tourism center but would involve a longer paddle to reach the sailboat. This would be ideal for returning guests, or adventurers who want to spend more time out on the water than the average visitor. Stay tuned for more updates as we search for the perfect vessel here in our water world.
